Lucas Wiegerink (Amsterdam 1985) holds a Master’s Degree from the Conservatory of Amsterdam where he studied composition with Richard Ayres and Willem Jeths, as well as at the Manhattan School of Music in New York City. Previously, Lucas studied composition at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague with Martijn Padding, Diderik Wagenaar, Louis Andriessen, and Roderik de Man. Lucas was a prizewinner at the Princess Christina Composition Competition and at the prestigious Henriëtte Bosmans Competition. His works have been performed in America, Germany, France, Portugal, India, and at the major concert halls in the Netherlands.
Lucas Wiegerink composed music for ensembles, choirs and orchestras, and for festivals including the Gaudeamus Music Week and the Darmstädter Ferienkurse. In July 2011, Lucas was composer in residence of the French music festival Tharaux Arts&Musique, initiated by the pianist Marja Bon. Recently, his music theatre work Being Arthur was premiered at the Rotterdam Operadays, performed by the Chamber Opera House and the Dutch Touring Opera.
In the 2014-2015 season, Lucas will be the Composer in the Spotlight at Musis Sacrum in Arnhem. His pieces will be performed by Ensemble Lunatree, clarinetist Lars Wouters van den Oudenweijer, master pianist Severin von Eckardstein, Orchestra De Ereprijs and the Netherlands Chamber Choir. Besides his activities as a composer, Lucas plays the piano, sings in choirs, and works as a conductor.
