Tamara Dworetz was recently a finalist in both the Dallas Symphony and Atlanta Symphony Assistant conductor auditions. Tamara served as assistant conductor to Bramwell Tovey, Principal Conductor of the BBC Concert Orchestra, at the 2019 London Proms. That same year, Tamara was selected as one of 6 conductors to participate in a two-week residency in the Dallas Opera's prestigious Hart Institute for Women Conductors, which culminated in a final concert of overtures and arias with the Dallas Opera Orchestra and world-class singers. Tamara won 2nd prize in the Boston Pops' 2018 Leonard Bernstein Conducting Competition. She was a Conducting Fellow for the Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music for which she received the Bruno Walter Conducting Fellowship. Previously, Tamara served for 2 years as Assistant Conductor for the Austin Symphony Orchestra. In various capacities, Tamara has conducted the Moscow Symphony Orchestra, Boston Pops, the Dallas Opera Orchestra, New Symphony Orchestra (Sofia, Bulgaria), Cabrillo Festival Orchestra, DeKalb Symphony Orchestra, and Butler Opera Center.
As a music educator, Tamara has conducted a variety of collegiate, youth and school ensembles, including the Longy Conservatory Orchestra at Bard College (guest conductor), the Austin Youth Orchestra (Interim Conductor) and The University of Texas University Orchestra (co-music director). She has led the Indiana University Brass Choir, University of Texas Symphony Orchestra, Boston University Symphony Orchestra and Boston University All-Campus Orchestra in concerts, as well as worked extensively with the Emory Youth Symphony Orchestra and Boston Youth Symphony Orchestras. Additionally, Tamara was Director of Orchestras at Lakeside High School in Atlanta, conductor of the University of Texas String Project's Chamber Orchestra and an orchestra instructor at The Westminster Schools in Atlanta, Georgia. She has served as a guest speaker at Davidson College and Towson University. Tamara received a Bachelor of Music Education at Indiana University, a Masters of Music Education at the University of Georgia, and a Masters in Orchestral Conducting at the University of Texas, Austin. She completed all coursework for her Doctorate in Musical Arts at Boston University, and is currently completing final exams. As a part of her DMA, she wrote a paper entitled 21st Century Leadership in the Conductor-Musician Relationship, which includes interviews with musicians and conductors throughout the country.
