The Italian conductor Mauro Mariani has studied cello (Lucerne) and is currently studying conducting with Nicolás Pasquet (Weimar).
He is the Music Director of the Orchestre Universitaire de Strasbourg and has conducted orchestras such as the Jenaer Philharmonie, Südwestdeutsche Philharmonie, North Czech Philharmonic Teplice, Orchestra da Camera Fiorentina, Spanish Wind Ensemble and has participated in masterclasses with Sofia Gubaidulina, Riccardo Muti, Renée Fleming, Ton Koopman and Heinrich Schiff among others.
2023 Mariani had his debut in Spain, was selected by Daniele Gatti to conduct Verdi's Rigoletto and premiered Dora Pejacevic’s Symphony op. 41 in France.
2022 he was selected by Paavo Järvi among 278 candidates for his Conductor’s Academy with the Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich, by Péter Eötvös as a conducting fellow at the European Creative Academy with the Ensemble Ars Nova and by Jorma Panula for his Panula Academy in Finland.
He has also been Franck Ollu’s assistant conductor with the Ensemble Modern at the Klangspuren Schwaz Festival.
Mariani speaks fluent Italian, German, Spanish, French and English.
He was twice a Conducting Fellow at the Aspen Music Festival and will return in 2024 as a recipient of the James Conlon Prize.
