Marco Antonio Pérez-Ramirez, French-Chilean composer, born in Santiago de Chile.
After studying classical guitar with Alberto Ponce, he moved on to study composition, as well as maths at the university level. He was first exposed to 20th-century music, before knowing The Romantic, Classical and Baroque music, there was not, therefore, a sense of historical progression in his study of music: “His experience differs from that of many of his colleagues. His unorthodox path gives his music a distinctly personal force ( Tristan Murail)”.
Having received awards from the Aram Khatchaturian Foundation, Boucourechliev Foundation and Unesco, in 1996 he is selected to integrate Ircam's Cursus of Composition and Computer Music. Following that, his meeting with Luca Francesconi was essential for his creative development. "Since the first look at his scores I noticed the urge and the fire of the real composer. His musical material is brimming with life and ideas, blazing with great intensity. His peculiar taste for sound is looking for poetry into the matter itself: in a way he hears what I might call the expressiveness of matter (Luca Francesconi)”.
His music has been performed all over the world in places such as Venice Biennale, Philharmonie de Paris, Enecu Festival Bucarest, Salle Pleyel, Teatro La Fenice, Cité de la Musique … by ensembles and orchestras such as the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio de France, Orchestre National de France, Orchestra del Teatro de la Fenice, Ensemble Intercontemporain, Orchestre National d'Ile de France, Orchestre Philharmonique de Strasbourg, Percussions de Strasbourg, Orchestre Sylphonique, Bucharest Symphony Orchestra ...
