After receiving his Diploma with honours in classical guitar from the “A. Corelli” Messina Conservatory (2011) and having studied composition at the International Piano Academy “Incontri col maestro” of Imola (2012), Marco began studying conducting with Donato Renzetti in “Accademia Musicale Pescarese”, where he received his diploma after three years. In August 2015 he entered the conducting class at the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo, studying with Ole Kristian Ruud and Sigmund Torp (2019).
His experience was enhanced by masterclasses with Jukka-Pekka Saraste, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Hannu Lintu, Daniele Gatti, Vladimir Jurowski, Vasily Petrenko, B. Weil, J. Schlaefli, Sascha Goetzel, E. G. Jensen, A. Vedernikov, C. Ehwald, A. Almila, M. Stringer and by conducting orchestras such as the Trondheim Symphony Orchestra, Stavanger Symphony Orchestra, Oslo Kammerakademi, Copenhaghen Philarmonic, Odense Symphony Orchestra, Ålborg Symhony Orchestra, Århus Symphony Orchestra, Sønderjyllands Symphony Orchestra, Randers Kammerorkester, Opéra Orchestre National de Montpellier, I Pomeriggi Musicali, Orchestra Giovanile Luigi Cherubini, Orchestra Giovanile Italiana, Filarmonica Gioachino Rossini.
Since 2012, Marco has also been working as a freelancer arranger/orchestrator. Of note is his work for the Bron Chamber Orchestra. His orchestrations have been performed at concert halls such as the Berliner Philarmonic, the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, the Tonhalle Zürich, together with “Interlaken Classics” festival and concerts organized by the Zakhar Bron Foundation and played by internationally acclaimed musicians such as Maxim Vengerov, Daniel Hope and Zakhar Bron. With Zakhar Bron as a soloist, three of his orchestrations have been included in the Bron Chamber CD “Impressions”.
Marco has recently debuted with Stravinsky’s Le Rossignol for Operaen i Midten and worked as an assistent conductor for the Royal Danish Opera in Verdi’s La Traviata and Mozart’s Così fan tutte (2022, 2023), for the Opéra National de Montpellier in Verdi’s Falstaff and Puccini’s Tosca (2020, 2022), for the Festival de Radio France in Thomas’ Hamlet (2022). He has been granted the Conducting Fellowship offered by “Cortona Sessions for New Music” (2017), conducting two world première pieces, together with compositions by Donatoni and Boulez. He was supported by “Fondation Idella” (2019, 2020). Marco is one of the candidates of the mentoring program “Dirigentforum 2018-2020”.
Marco is a graduate from the Advanced Postgraduate program in Orchestral Conducting at the Royal Danish Academy of Music, where he studied under the guidance of Giordano Bellincampi and Michael Schønwandt.
