Dilay Doğanay
Born in İzmir, Turkey, in 1999, Dilay Doğanay is a composer, poet, and occasionally a performer of her own texts and musical works. Her music explores the theatricality of sound as well as implicit and explicit forms of communication.
Her compositions, often inspired by language, literature, and oral and written communication, sometimes include texts she has written herself. Her works have been performed by various ensembles, including the Ensemble Intercontemporain, Klangforum Wien, RIOT, Schallfeld Ensemble, IEMA, Hand Werk, Next Ensemble, and Ensemble Orbis, as well as by performers such as the artist Winnie Huang, in several countries including Italy, Germany, Austria, Turkey, Ukraine, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Colombia, and France. Her music has also been featured in major international festivals such as the Wittener Tage für Neue Musik, Festival Impuls, Wiener Festwochen, Gaudeamus Festival, Voix Nouvelles Royaumont, Festival Ravel (Academy), and Festival Mixtur.
Currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Composition at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris (class of Frédéric Durieux), she previously obtained a Master’s degree in Composition from the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Graz (class of Franck Bedrossian) and a Bachelor’s degree in Composition from Yaşar University, İzmir. She studied acoustic and electroacoustic composition with Mehmet Can Özer, orchestration with Füsun Köksal, and violin at the Dokuz Eylül University State Conservatory.
Her recent distinctions include the Ö1-Talentebörse Kompositionspreis 2024/25, selection by Klangforum Wien for the Wiener Festwochen, the Audience Award at the Tagen der Neuen Klaviermusik competition, and, recently, a commission for the 2028 season of the Création Mondiale program on Radio France.
