Pedro González Álvarez (1991) is a Spanish composer and guitarist. He began his musical training in guitar at the Conservatorio Superior del Principado de Asturias, where he also studied composition. Later, he completed a Master’s Degree in Contemporary Music Creation at Musikene, Basque Country, under the guidance of Ramón Lazkano. He has received lessons and masterclasses from renowned composers such as Georges Aperghis, Toshio Hosokawa, George Benjamin, Michael Jarrell, Patricia Alessandrini, Alberto Posadas, José María Sánchez-Verdú, and Mauricio Sotelo, among others.
In 2024, he was awarded the "Prix de Composition de l'Académie Ravel," which led to a commission for the 2025 Ravel Festival. That same year, he received an Honorable Mention at the "II Fundación SGAE Euskadi Composition Prize 2024" and won several other competitions, including the "II and III Composition Competition of the Conservatorio Superior de Música del Principado de Asturias" (2019 and 2020), and the "Young Chamber Music Composers Competition" in Guadalajara (2016).
Throughout his career, he has composed works such as La existencia es nuestro exilio..., performed by the Ensemble Klangforum Wien, and ...y la nada, nuestro hogar, premiered by the Ascolta Ensemble. His music has been performed in cities like Chicago, South Bend (Indiana), Saint Jean de Luz (France/Basque country) Barcelona, Valencia, Oviedo, and San Sebastián, by groups such as Duo Santorsa-Pereyra, Quartet Gerhard, and Ensemble Concept/21.
In 2022, he participated in the Ensems Festival (Valencia), where his work was performed by the Jove Orquestra de la Generalitat Valenciana under the mentorship of Isabel Mundry and Georges Aperghis. He has also collaborated with sculptor Tadanori Yamaguchi and the School of Dramatic Arts of the Principado de Asturias.
In 2024, he was a resident at the Académie Ravel (Saint-Jean-de-Luz, France), working under the guidance of Michael Jarrell and Ramón Lazkano. He was also selected as a resident composer for the Mixtur Festival in Barcelona, where he worked with Chaya Czernowin.
Among his upcoming projects, he is set to participate in international festivals and create new works for contemporary ensembles.
