Edoardo Casali (b. 1995, Bologna) is an Italian bassoonist, contrabassoonist, and composer. He studied bassoon with Lorenzo Bettini, graduating with honors in Bologna, and later earned both an MMus and PGDip with distinction under Stefano Canuti at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester. He also has attended masterclasses with renowned performers including Klaus Thunemann and Sergio Azzolini.
Since 2023, he has served as Principal Contrabassoon of the Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano. He has performed with major ensembles such as the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, BBC Philharmonic, The Hallé, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, and Teatro Petruzzelli, under conductors like Riccardo Muti, Daniele Gatti, Christoph Eschenbach, and many others As a soloist, he has performed works by Vivaldi, Weber, and Daugherty, among others, across Europe and Asia.
Dedicated to contemporary music, he has participated in leading programs including the Britten-Pears Young Artist Programme, Lucerne Festival Academy, and London Sinfonietta Academy. He regularly premieres new works and collaborates with composers and research institutions.
As a composer, Edoardo graduated with honors in Composition from the "G. Verdi" Conservatory in Milan, studying with Alessandro Solbiati and Gabriele Manca. His works—often exploring electronics and sound processing—have been performed by MDI Ensemble, Divertimento Ensemble, and prominent soloists. His recent accolades include prizes at the Ise-Shima International Composition Competition (2024) and the Milan Conservatoire Prize (2025). He has recently received commissions for an opera and other works from Divertimento Ensemble.
