Ge Weiyue, a contemporary young conductor, began studying the violin and viola under
Professor Ding Zhinuo at an early age. Ge earned Master's and Bachelor's Degrees in Orchestral
Conducting from The Shanghai Conservatory of Music. Ge served as the concertmaster of the String Orchestra at Ge-Zhi Middle School for two years.
In 2002, Ge won First Place at The Karl Höfner International Violin Competition and the First
Gold Prize at the Shanghai Television Youth Arts Competition. He also won multiple prizes in
chamber music competitions as a violist.
In 2005, ranked as the top student in the profession, Ge got into the Composition and
Conducting Department of the Shanghai Conservatory of Music (SCOM) and studied conducting
under Prof. Zhang Guoyong and Prof. Lin Yousheng. Ge was widely acclaimed during his learning in SCOM. As the Minister of the Culture and Sports
Ministry of SCOM, Ge participated in several types of recreational campus activities such as
military performances by composing, performing, and organizing. From 2006 to 2010, Ge served as an assistant stage manager at the Shanghai Opera House, meanwhile, he showed his ability in leadership as the assistant director of opera, coach, assistant conductor, and choir conductor. He was involved in dozens of operas in scheduling
stage performances and was praised by conductors including Lyu Jia, Plasson, and Lin Yousheng;
renowned opera directors including Li Wei, Chen Xinzhi, and Maurizio; famous singers including
José Cura, Liao Changyong, Wei Song, Yang Xiaoyong, Xu Xiaoying, Wu Bixia, and Zhang Jianlu. From 2007 to 2009, Ge held the position of Contributing Director in Tele cruiser for several
Shanghai Media Group (SMG) concerts and Shanghai Spring International Music Festival
(SSIMF).
In 2010, Ge was responsible for the conductor behind the scenes, assistant conductor, assistant
director, and translator while the renowned conductor Maestro Lorin Maazel was conducting
Turandot at Guangzhou Opera House’s opening performance. In the same year, Ge was
appointed the permanent conductor of the Guangzhou Pearl River Symphony Orchestra
(original Pearl River Film Orchestra). In 2011, as a co-founder, Ge became the principal
permanent conductor of The Orchestra of Shenzhen Grand Theatre and created and conducted
dozens of charities classical concerts, and lectures for teenagers.
In 2012, when Ge was only 26 years old, he became one of the Chinese youngest conductors
since he conducted the whole opera Le Nozze di Figaro for the public in China. Ge was appointed as the conductor of Longmao Orchestra under contract to Beijing Tianli Time
International Performance Co.Ltd being responsible for East and South China. Therefore, as a
conductor, violinist, and chamber musician, Ge performed on professional classical music
stages in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Fuzhou, and Xiamen. He was frequently
invited to conduct symphony orchestras such as China Radio & Film Symphony Orchestra,
Shaanxi Symphony Orchestra, Shanxi Symphony Orchestra, Xiamen Song & Dance Theatre
Symphony Orchestra, and Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra.
In the summer of 2016, he participated in the Orchestra Kids talent training program and
served as the assistant conductor of Mr. Hu Yongyan. Currently, Ge has served as the conductor of the Chamber Orchestra of the Shanghai
Conservatory of Music, and the permanent conductor and instructor of the Student Festival
Orchestra of Music in the Summer Air (MISA)

At the same time, Ge Weiyue held the National Teacher Certificate as a middle school music
teacher at the establishment affiliated with Shanghai Huangpu Youth Arts Activity Center, where he founded the Huangpu Student Philharmonic Orchestra (HPSPO). Conducted by Ge
Weiyue, the HPSPO won the Second Prize and Best Stage Presence at the Philadelphia
International Music Festival 2019 Orchestra Competition held in Bryn Mawr College, PA, USA.
