Originally from Shenzhen, China, Yuxuan Lin (b.2003) is an NYC-based composer who is
intensely interested in the possibilities of combining visual art, dance, and music, and enjoys any opportunity to collaborate. She consistently draws inspiration from neurological diversity among artists as a creative resource.
As a musician, Lin began playing the piano at age six and later studied both folk and classical
guitar, as well as the Chinese traditional instruments erhu and hulusi. She began her composition studies with Reiko Füting following in the footsteps of her grandfather, a self-taught composer focusing on Chinese folk music. Lin is the winner of the 2024 Verdehr Trio Composition Commission Prize, and has received recognition from prominent ensembles and organizations such as Salastina, SOLI Chamber Ensemble, Society for New Music, and ASCAP. She is published by North Star Music LLC. Her music has been performed at various concert stages across North America, Asia, and Europe. Venues include Alice Tully Hall, Tokyo to New York: 'Moments in This Time' Benefit Concert for Covid-19 Musicians Relief, La Schola Cantorum in Paris, Yellow Barn in Putney, VT, and Seocho Art Center in Seoul, Korea, among others. Lin has been fortunate to attend composition programs including the European American Musical Alliance (EAMA), Yellow Barn Young Artists Program, Atlantic Music Festival, Bowdoin International Music Festival, Lake George Music Festival, and SPLICE Institute with a concentration on electroacoustic music. She is also a member of the Salastina Composer Collective, through which she worked with composer Derrick Skye. Lin has had the privilege to work with and learn from renowned composers such as Andrew Norman, Kevin Puts, Derek Bermel, David Ludwig, George Tsontakis, Alyssa Weinberg, Eric Nathan, Stephen Coxe, Ana Sokolovic, Matthew Quayle, and many more.
As an avid composer for visual media, Lin continuously pursues opportunities to collaborate
with visual artists and directors. She has been partnered with student directors at the London
Film School on numerous projects.
Recently graduating with a Bachelor of Music degree from The Juilliard School, Lin received the
Peter Mennin Prize for outstanding achievement and leadership in msuic, presented at the
commencement by David Serkin Ludwig, Dean and Director of the Music Division. Beginning
in fall 2025, Lin continues to pursue a Master’s degree in composition at The Juilliard School
under the guidance of distinguished composers Melinda Wagner and Nina C. Young.
