The work of Marco Antonio Perez-Ramirez is powerful, mineral, highly structured - one would even write structural in reference to the structural geology, the rocky masses of the Andes, the faults, perhaps the traces of earthquakes, as happens so frequently in Chilean nature. The composer, speaking at the pre-concert performance in the rehearsal hall of the New Philharmonic, tells us that he seeks to create "des abîmes" and reminds us that this piece, commissioned by the Orchestre National d'Île-de-France, is dedicated to the memory of his father, who recently passed away.
The heart-rending violin opening, marks the beginning of a short, demanding work, conducted with a firm baton by Fabien Gabel.
