"Patagonia" is an electroacoustic piece composed in SuperCollider, inspired by the soundscape of Punta Arenas, a city in the chilean Patagonia. At its core is the sporadic sound of cathedral bells, occasionally heard through the wind and urban noise—sounds that, when present, briefly reshape the listener’s perception of space and atmosphere.
It begins with a chaotic texture: bells sounding dissonant and unaligned, creating tension and instability. Gradually, this density thins out, giving way to a more spacious and balanced sonic environment. Finally, the bells return in a more ordered and simple form, tuned using just intonation. A sustained background evokes the ever-shifting wind of the Patagonian landscape: it is calm, but constantly threatens chaos.
